DCC Use: The pure DC power and large capacity is ideal for powering DCC boosters and preferred over AC transformers due to power savings and lack of noise introduced by non regulated DC or raw AC sources, such as the LGB 50111 6 amp transformer. In addition, the remote shutdown is indispensable for run away DCC controlled Locos and the remote 'power good' status lines notify the operator instantly of any power problems. This power supply will easily drive the new Massoth 1210Z 10 amp Central Station and the 1203B booster as well as 13 amps of power for lighting or accessories.
Set up is fast and easy using our Massoth cable set and a screw driver.
Use the 20 amp output to power BOTH a Massoth 12 amp 1210Z central station AND a Massoth 12 amp 1203 booster. No circuit breakers or fuses are required, just our Massoth cable set, a screw driver and a few minutes.

“I am actually purchasing this supply for a yet to be completed layout but will evaluate its capabilities with a friend that is a retailer for LGB, Aristo, USA, Bridgewerks, Marklin, etc. We work on projects together and trade a lot of information on the idiosyncrasies and installation of MTS & DCC. My work background was with test equipment companies (Fluke &Tektronix) and software (Microsoft/Annasoft). He just finished doing some power supply evaluation with real loads running up to fourteen locos on multiple layouts simultaneously from various single power sources. Some of the data is flawed but the testing revealed some not too surprising results... most of the power sources cannot deliver their full outputs under load. Heavy startup demands and surge currents can shut down or even damage the output stages of many power sources.
Most hobbyists do not realize how much current a couple of motors need to operate properly. Lamps in locos and cars generate significant power demands. Fortunately some of the newer locos are going to LED's for longevity, heat reduction and lower current requirements.
I personally use both analog and DCC with my real intended application utilizing the 6 amp outputs for MTS with LGB 55005's and the 20 amp output potentially with 55006's.
Have you ever considered a wireless interface installed inside the throttle case (SL-TLC1CV-click here to view) with an external small handheld wireless remote?“
--- Buyer
Yes, I am testing a wireless remote version of our throttle. We developed the throttle after being disappointed with the other units on the market. Check my web site for details.(SL-TLC1CV-click here to view)

Q: |
Hi, What does your transformer use to step down the voltage? 6 pounds seems very light for a classic transformer. Thanks, Fred |
A: |
It is not a classic transformer (which looses about 50% of input power in heat loss) it uses an AC to DC converter followed by 3 ea. DC to DC high efficiency converters (>90% efficient) to produce PURE DC. This is a $1,300.00 highly regulated power supply. You will not find it at Radio Shack or your local supply store. The DC to DC converters use very high frequency transformers that are very small and light and VERY efficient. You can not build a classic transformer based power supply with good efficiency due to the power loss in 60Hz transformers. A classic power supply will also not give you the features of this supply. Please click on the link and read the datasheets for this unit, they are impressive ;-). +++ Thanks for asking +++ PS if you don't want to make your own cables with the included connectors, I will do it for you if you tell me the length of cables you need.

Q: |
Your ad says DC Regulated Switching Power Supply and
Pure
DC
power. Which is it? |
A: |
Both. This is a unit delivers pure DC power via a AC input source (auto ranging) and uses an AC to DC converter followed by 3 independent DC to DC regulated switching power supplies in one fan cooled box. There is NO better power supply available. See link on mfg. tech specs for more details. - Thanks for asking.

Q: |
Do you know if this power supply can be used on Carrea slot car systems. What I'm wanting to do is be able to control the speed of the cars by the voltage on the track. Maybe by a PC. |
A: |
Yes. I have several buyers using this supply for slots. It will output up to 32.5 amps continuous amperage. You can select any voltage from 9 to 28 volts. I recommend leaving it at 24 volts and using your throttle to meter out the power to your cars. Best of luck bidding.

Q: |
Hi there, will this be OK for the new ESU Loksound controller? |
A: |
Yes. It does work with ESU Loksound without any modification. |

Q: |
Will this supply work with MTH's DCS system? |
A: |
Yes it will. Please visit our web site and be sure to read other Q&As on this item for more info. Their is NO better power supply for DCS and this in the ONLY one with low power remote shut down for run away DCC trains! The clean power and constant voltage output ensures best possible operation with DCC boosters and decoders. This is the only model railroad power supply that puts out 32.5 amps continuously. Use it to run your accessories and lighting systems also.

Q: |
OK, you've got my attention! I've been looking for a supply for a year now. I was about to settle for the PS2012 from Digitrax. Questions: Can the supply be delivered with all three outputs set to 18VDC? If not, are they easily configurable by the end user? Does it come with a manual? Is there a manufacturer's warranty? What does it cover and what is the warranty period? Thanks, --Mike |
A: |
Yes, all three can be set to 18V - I have users that have set all of the sub-units to 12Volts and 20 Volts. Yes you can easily do it yourself. Yes I include hookup information manual. Yes, please check my web site for info. Here is some critical issues that another buyer sent me that you might want to consider.

Q: |
DO YOU HAVE THESE IN WHITE.........THANX. |
A: |
No. They are black anodized aluminum cases mfg. to mil specifications. They look very cool in black but are usually not seen by visitors to your railroad. Most users put this somewhere out of the way, like under their layout and run cables to throttles and/or DCC boosters. I have my power supply mounted indoors under my workbench and run the power lines outdoors to my DCC and analog throttles. This is ideal as the supplies have auto-shutdown in the event of overloads or short circuits. They automatically reset when the fault is removed. |
Q: |
Does it come with the connectors for each plug in slot? |
A: |
Yes, all electrical connectors are included for all power in, out, sense lines and control lines. All you need to do is supply wire and crimp & solder or tell me your length requirements and I will do the work for you. Click on the wiring diagram above to see a large view showing all the connectors supplied and their functions. +++ I can also supply terminal blocks for the ends of the DC outputs so you can easily attach throttle or DCC/MTS central station & power boosters. If you tell me the length of runs for your wiring, I will tell you the gauge wire size to use as it varies with distance. +++ One of the best features of this supply is that it is totally goof proof. It is protected for short circuits, over voltage and temp shutdown as well automatic input voltage and frequency configuration so it works with any world voltage and frequency. +++ This is also the most efficient supply you can buy so you won't have to worry about your energy bill. My favorite feature is the low voltage power shutdown feature that I have wired to a large red emergency stop button so all my runaway trains stop instantly when the button is pushed. Pulling the plug on the AC does not stop the trains instantly as the power supply capacitors store energy and the trains will still run for several seconds but hitting the emergency stop (or dead man switch) stops all output power instantly. +++ This supply is a real bargain at $250.00 as the supply will cost over $1300.00 when the few I have left are sold. I am keeping two for my railroad which should last several generations of operation. +++ Thanks for asking, ___James |
Q: |
Can this be used with the Aristocraft Train Engineer and the MTH control system? |
A: |
Yes, I have a customer using Aristo and MTH. The reasons to this supply for MTH are 1)no AC line noise to degrade data, 2)Huge power savings $$$ 3)Automatic fault protection for shorts, thermal & voltage overload 4)AUTOMATIC power restore when fault is removed 5)INSTANT remote power shut down for dead man switch when MTH goes haywire 6)AUTOMATIC input voltage and frequency adjustment 7) Three supplies in one - you get a 20 amp and two 6.25 amp supplies - each can be set to any voltage between 9 and 27 VDC 8)Great deal on $1,300.00 supply! Thanks for asking, James |
