These track contacts, shown below, also fit inside the railroad tie but have no terminal block and come with two diodes for duplicating the functionality of the terminal block version in the above photo.
As a loco magnet passes each contact, the switch motor opens and closes to provide automation

Make sure to use a 16 Volt AC power source for powering your track and signal motors from track contacts.
